As a member of the SUCCESS Learning Community, you will be taking courses appropriate for your major as well as classes with your learning community cohort. During the fall and spring, you will have two courses per semester with SUCCESS. The rest of your schedule is up to you.
Fall Semester:
UCOL 1200 (3 credit hours) – First Year Seminar: SUCCESS Learning Community: Students will enjoy a seminar-style learning experience focused on faculty-led assistance with the intellectual and social transition from high school to college. This will happen by increasing student involvement in the intellectual life of the campus by learning more about majors in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, providing an orientation to the vast array of resources available to students such as the touring and learning about the University Center for Academic Excellence (tutoring, workshops, peer mentoring, etc.), learning about study abroad and scholarship opportunities on campus, and promoting problem-solving and critical thinking skills through reflective writing activities. This is an amazing opportunity for first-year students to have fun while learning how to begin college with savvy.
Spring Semester:
CLAS 2600 (1 credit hour) – LEADS Colloquium: Learn how LEADS can support your goals as you create a professional development plan, develop critical competencies that will be important for your success at UNC Charlotte and throughout your career, and exercise innovative thinking through identifying problems that matter to you and developing creative plans for causing action. The course is designed to help students maximize their potential for academic and post-UNC Charlotte success and provides credit towards the LEADS certificate program in Leadership, Innovation, Technology, and Diversity.
